The return of Edward Hynes Charter to the Lakeview area provided a celebratory theme for the school’s fundraising gala, Feb. 4. ,

At their monthly meeting Jan. 23, principal Michelle Douglas told the school’s board of directors that the gala, titled “There’s No Place Like Home,” was a spin-off of the “Wizard of Oz” and was attracting parents, teachers and neighbors.

“So far we have sold 350 tickets for the Saturday gala and we still expect to sell more before the event occurs,” Douglas told the board. “The profits from the gala will help pay for other school-related projects that we didn’t budget for,” she said.

At the board’s inaugural meeting at the new school, Douglas praised staff and students for their easy transition to the building. She added that there had been no mishaps associated with the move. Work on the gymnasium was nearing completion, Douglas said, and the school was looking to rent out the space for community events,  provided they didn’t conflict with scheduled school activities.

The meeting ended with the announcement that board members Todd Schexnayder and Elizabeth Sigler will be stepping down at year’s end. Prospective replacements will be interviewed in coming months.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m. The next board meeting is Feb. 20.
