All of the approximately 180 employees of the two-school charter organization were invited to the Beau Rivage in August. The charter organization covered their hotel rooms and meals. A week later, CEO Doris Roché-Hicks told staff at one school that their pay would be cut 2 percent. That move saved about as much as the retreat cost.
Five students have been killed since June.
School's enrollment was 447 students as of Oct. 1.
School is nearly $140,000 in the black so far this fiscal year.
Increased enrollment means more money for the two schools.
School's executive director felt "the school needed a change in leadership."
Founding principal Heidi Campbell to step down at the end of the school year.
The school, which does not have a senior class yet, earns a B grade in state scoring.
