Orleans Parish schools Superintendent Henderson Lewis will hold his second town-hall meeting tonight at Landry-Walker High School.

The Lens will live blog it here.

Lewis and Seventh District School Board member Nolan Marshall Jr. invite teachers, parents, administrators and community members to the meeting, in which they plan to discuss Lewis’ first six months at the helm of half of a fragmented collection of schools.

Lewis is holding a forum with all School Board members at a school in their districts this fall.

At Monday’s meeting in the Sixth District, Lewis spoke for roughly 20 minutes before taking comments and questions from the audience. Several parents from Benjamin Franklin Elementary told Lewis about facility concerns. Other community members asked that the Master Plan for rebuilding schools be revisited, and several people praised Lewis for his work.

The School Board oversees 24 schools of the 82 public schools in New Orleans. Most of the rest are charter schools overseen by the state-run Recovery School District, which took more than 100 of the city’s schools in 2005.

At a meeting last week marking his first 180 days in office, Lewis spoke about the need to raise the performance of all city schools, including those under the RSD. He said new policies passed this summer were a result of working with both OPSB and RSD charters, and he is hopeful RSD charters will begin to return to local oversight.

Tonight’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the auditorium Landry-Walker High School at 1200 L.B. Landry Ave.
