Turnover continues in the New Beginnings Charter School Network — the network’s high school principal resigned at the beginning of the new school year.

Classes started Aug. 5 for Lake Area New Tech Early College High School students, and Principal Chad Broussard resigned the first week of August, New Beginnings CEO Sametta Brown said.

New Beginnings has struggled with attrition — losing one-third of its staff this summer. Last year, principals at three of the network’s four schools, including the high school, resigned.

Broussard was named principal of the high school just last December, after then-principal Michael Booker left the network.

Broussard “has taken an assistant superintendent position in New Jersey,” Brown said Thursday.

In the meantime, Brown said, Assistant Principal Darren Lewis will serve as interim principal.

  1. Somebody should get indicted – but who? So many and so little time! No wonder many of these charter operators are seeking to expand to Baton Rouge and elsewhere. They have sucked the well dry.

  2. Gentilly Terrace lost more than one third of its’ teachers. Every teacher in grades 6-8 resigned and the majority of the PK-5 teachers left as well. Maybe 5 teachers in the school returned. I know because I was one if those teachers that resigned…

  3. That’s why Sametta gets paid the big bucks! She will hire new principals and the new principals will hire new teachers and no one really cares about teacher turnover. As one of the board member’s recently asked, “Is there is teacher shortage?” No!?! Then so what (if teachers resign). Ha! Good luck, Stacy Matherne. “Certified” teachers, particularly in this city, have been blamed, shamed, left out, pushed out, and have learned that it does no good to complain…because if they do not voluntarily resign, they will be shown the school door.

  4. Wow, Ms. Matherene, I didn’t know that. I was a teacher at Pierre A. Capdau and since left the state. You did such a great job over there at GT. They lost a great asset.

  5. Ms. Newman, Thanks so much for the compliment. The hardest part was leaving my students. I stayed longer than many but in the end I couldn’t be a part of an organization that doesn’t service the needs of their students. Sad really..
