“We are now treating medicine as an industrial product.” Listening to this “podcast”:http://www.pbs.org/moyers/rss/media/BMJ-1320.mp3 that line stuck out as just a pretty apt definition of what is wrong with our attitude towards the LSU/VA hospital. The lack of planning and transparency is on a par with the lack of transparency when it comes to health care. […]

Where were you?
These Anniversary days seem to not get easier. Reading the piece in the “NYT”:http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/magazine/30doctors.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&hp about Memorial Hospital about the difficult, tragic, heartbreaking decisions made there only served to remind me of how fragile we humans are. Here I am sometime in 2006, trying to figure out how to put all the pieces back together. “Mark”:http://wetbankguide.blogspot.com/ […]
And I thought the devil was in the details…
Today’s press conference at the site of the Lafitte Public Housing project was filled with many elected officials and MC’d by Wayne Woods from HANO. No mention was made of Dwayne Muhammad the Director of the Voucher program at HANO who is now “on leave” for allegedly using the voucher program to pay his own […]
Health Care Town Hall in Reserve…
I guess she wants to go off the reservation. “link”:http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2009/08/landrieu_has_health_forum_in_r.html It seems odd that the “Krewe of Truth”:http://www.kreweoftruth.com/web/ is promoting this obvious attempt to discredit the “public option”:http://la4healthreform.blogspot.com/ making it sound like it is just a couple of happy go lucky guys looking for the truth. Maybe they wouldn’t be so happy go lucky if […]

4 years and counting
Just got back from taking my child to college. The last time we had a car trip so filled with anxiety and uncertainty it was evacuating in 2005. She was a freshman in high school and when we returned in December she returned to her flooded school to start where she left off. An unwise […]
Demolition by chainsaw Babin/Africa Plantation
I received a disturbing e mail this morning that the Babin / African Museum was demolished using a chainsaw. The house as it stood is near the very bottom of the page “link”:http://www.africanamericanmuseum.org/aboutmuseumfuture.html The Africa Plantation House, located in Modeste, Louisiana is another building of African American significance in the Donaldsonville area. It was originally […]
Demolition Denied
There was a great turnout today from all over New Orleans who all spoke in opposition to the Archdiocese plan to demolish Annunciation Church. The application was denied.
The Archdiocese opts for demolition
This weeks NCDC agenda contains an application to demolish “The Annunciation Church”:http://www.neworleanschurches.com/annunciation/annunciation.htm My guess is they want to demolish the Church along with the rectory and meeting hall to build senior housing. Which in and of itself may be a needed service, but with the abundance of vacant lots in the City it would seem […]
