Behind The Lens episode 53: ‘The ramifications for our business are severe… I’m worried about long term’

With a 2020 budget now in the hands of City Council, the big debate remains what to do about property taxes. Lawyers file a personal injury suit related to the Hard Rock Hotel collapse, as local businesses are feeling an impact while they try to maintain business as usual in the city restricted disaster zone.

This week on Behind the Lens:

Mayor LaToya Cantrell releases her 2020 budget proposal – while the debate over property tax rates continues. Michael Isaac Stein has the story.

The Orleans Parish School Board is involved in those conversations about property taxes – which will ultimately affect funding for local schools. Marta Jewson has the details.

And – fallout from last week’s Hard Rock Hotel collapse. Businesses in the restricted zone are feeling the impact of long-term street closures, unsure about when they’ll be able to get back to normal operations. We talk with Andrew Principe, one of the partners at Palm & Pine restaurant.
