Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans’ has hired Marina Schoen, a long-time Orleans Parish teacher and administrator, as the French curriculum charter school’s academic director.

After a year of turnover, in both administration and school leadership, Lycée hired Chief Executive Officer Keith Bartlett last month and soon after he opened the academic director position.

Bartlett announced Schoen’s hiring Monday morning; parents were told via email newsletter.

Schoen comes from Lusher Charter School and worked at Audubon Montessori School for eight years prior to that. She has worked as an English, French and Italian teacher at multiple grade levels as well as in administration, and began her career teaching in Italy, according to her resume.

Schoen’s cover letter indicates she has worked with teachers through the Council for Development of French in Louisiana before, the same organization through which Lycée hires most of its teachers.

Schoen applied for the CEO position when the school was searching earlier this year — she was interviewed in June but not selected.

Former Academic Director Gisele Schexnider said in an interview last week that she resigned the position July 10 and did not re-apply.
