Since we have been so closely involved in the “Demolition issues”:http://thinknola.com/post/hard-charging-can-do-incompetence/ we have been wondering since the recent Tax Sale if the City was cross checking information about the properties sold and the Demolition list.

I had been told by Safety and Permits that they had cross checked. Considering that FEMA was not paying to demolish “pre Storm blight” the assumption should be that these Tax sales properties would not qualify for demolition as they have had issues pre Katrina.

Yesterday we came upon concrete evidence that the City had NEVER cross checked these properties. So if you bought a house at tax sale make sure you post your contact information on the house with a giant DO NOT DEMOLISH sign.

  1. we were informed by a friend yesterday that our recently purchased home on spruce street (not a tax sale) had been demolished. We live in hawaii and were in the process of talking with a contractor about what was salvagable, historic and could be used in the renovation of the house. Now all of it is gone. We have received no notices about the demolition- but have received and paid our tax bills- seemingly the City could have found us to notify us of their plans for our house. Any tips for what we should do next?
