The Better Choice Foundation board, which runs Mary D. Coghill Accelerated Charter School, voted a new member into its ranks at Wednesday’s meeting: Monique Doucette, an attorney with Ogletree Deakins. Doucette brings the board’s membership to 12.
The board caught up on decision-making that had not been possible at the previous meeting, Feb. 25, for lack of a quorum. With more than half of board members in attendance Wednesday, votes were taken to approve minutes from the previous two meetings, as amended to reflect that Andrew Amedee had, in fact, been present at the previous meeting.
The board also approved its latest financial report, a document handed out at the Feb. 25 meeting and distributed again Wednesday.
Principal Aisha Jones said the school has until 3 p.m. Friday to submit its charter renewal application. By Thursday, board members were to have filled out a three-question form asking why they joined the board, what skills they bring to it and what would be an example of a difficult professional decision they’ve made.
Rounding out final details for the school’s upcoming Jazz Brunch fundraiser, the silent auction was augmented by the addition of a Gentilly Fest poster from 2011 as well as a signed Kermit Ruffins poster. The board continues to solicit donations and sponsors for the event, Saturday, March 22. They will meet March 12 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss any lingering issues associated with the fundraiser.
Wednesday’s meeting was called to order at 5:20 p.m. and lasted just under an hour. Those present included board president Keith Barney, treasurer James Logan, Victor Gordon, Terri Franklin, Ida Richard, Amedee and principal Jones.
The board’s next meeting was not yet scheduled.
