Two board members have resigned from the New Beginnings Schools Foundation, dropping the charter school network’s board below the number of members required by state law.
“April Bedford and Carol Skriloff Starr both resigned within the past week for personal reasons,” New Beginnings spokesman Paul Dauphin confirmed Wednesday.
The board now has six members. This leaves it one member shy of the seven required by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
“It was a coincidence that both of them resigned within the same week,” Dauphin wrote in an email.
Dauphin said a nominating committee will be created to fill board vacancies.
This summer the board was cited by the state Department of Education for violating the open meetings law during a public meeting.
High turnover has also plagued the network which oversees Medard Nelson, Pierre A. Capdau and Gentilly Terrace elementary schools, and Lake Area New Tech Early College High School. The Lake Area prinicipal resigned this month in the first week of school.
The board is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Pierre A. Capdau Charter School.
