Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans’ board approved a plan Monday night that puts the hunt for a permanent charter school leader on hold as it seeks an interim CEO for the 2013-14 school year.

Now leaders have 19 days to find an interim CEO under a timeline the board approved.

The school’s CEO search committee last week recommended the move after members said they thought it was too late in the academic year to continue the search for a permanent school leader. Last month, a lone finalist for the permanent opening turned down the board’s offer for the chief position.

The committee on Monday wasted no time after the board voted to accept the plan. Members scheduled interviews three days this week — and they say they will continue to accept applications through June 14.

According to Tuesday’s agenda, the committee will interview Ghislaine Bazir at 7:30 p.m. About 12 hours later they’ll be at it again, interviewing Joseph Daschbach and Marina Schoen at 8 a.m. Wednesday. And on Thursday the committee will interview Keith Bartlett at 4:30 p.m. All interviews are scheduled to take place in executive session.

Resumes the candidates submitted to Lycée show:

• Bazir is assistant head of school at Lycée Français de Chicago, a K-12 school, and previously worked at a Lycée in France, according to her resume.

• Daschbach, a New Orleans resident, has worked in several schools, including Lagniappe Academies and New Orleans Center for Science and Mathematics, and is currently working as a an educational consultant.

• Schoen has served at Lusher Charter School since 2007 and was at Audubon Montessori School prior to that.

• After working in several schools, including serving as principal of John Dibert School, Bartlett now mentors principals through Louisiana A+ Schools, according to his resume.
  

The plan and timeline adopted by the board Monday allows interviews to continue until June 22 with a goal of recommending an interim CEO to the board by June 30.

The committee recommended the board resume a national search for a new school leader in the fall.

The board also elected two new members, less than month before its longest-serving members are expected to roll off the board. However, with 10 people currently seated, only Ann Meese or Tessa Jackson could begin serving Monday night because the board’s bylaws cap membership at 11.

Member Erin Greenwald suggested the board flip a coin to decide who could vote and after the agenda was amended to add both members she asked for a volunteer.

A parent came to the front of the room and flipped a coin.

“It’s heads,” she said.

“Then Ann gets to vote,” said board member Tim Gray.

About 15 people attended Monday’s half-hour meeting.
