4217 Canal Street. — Owner Upstaged LLC has applied to demolish this
raised
basement Arts-and-Crafts style residence to be replaced with a vacant
lot.
It looks like someone ruined this house a long time ago (at least before the storm). What a wacky renovation. I’ve never seen a mixture of arts and crafts and early King Arthur before. Poor thing.
I know, tell me about it; that was the first thing I thought when I went to take pictures was how bad previous renovations done to this house had been. In spite of all this, however, I do believe this house could come back if it was sold to an owner who would put some time into it. We cannot lose houses on our main historic streets and avenues; that is just unacceptable.
I don’t think the house’s renovations are a complete disaster…all we need now is a moat and a high wall to protect you from those bothersome Germanic tribes! ha ha- I didn’t know the “Mid” in Mid City was short for “Mid”ieval. On a serious note, I think this house is still a gem, all it takes is a little work and finding some good people to turn it around. Randall Fox is right, we can’t lose houses on our main historic streets.
