Academics, attendance remain strong; funding glitch leaves $114,000 hole in the budget

Work lies ahead in bringing new students up to speed with retained students, the board was told, but progress remains strong.

Attendance, at 97 percent, is excellent and the budget is healthy, the board learned, though there is a need to make up for a $114,000 grant that was rescinded by the state. The grant, of a type awarded automatically to failing schools, was mistakenly awarded to Akili, a strong performer, and had already been built into the 2011-12 budget. The board hopes the state can provide money to make up for the shortfall.

In other reports, the governance committee is considering a new board member, the strategic planning committee will meet later this month, and the school’s all-new website  — www.akiliacademy.org/ — is up and running.

The next board meeting will be on Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
