Behind The Lens episode 151: ‘The authority to grant or deny parole’

The 2022 city budget passes. A newly proposed tax could expand early childhood education. And Angola prisoner Bobby Sneed is once again denied freedom.

This week on Behind The Lens, Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s proposed city budget for 2022 is approved by the New Orleans City Council — with a few modifications.

An appeals court threw out a state judge’s order to release longtime Angola prisoner Bobby Sneed, prompting a lawsuit against the parole board.

And early childhood education in New Orleans could be vastly expanded if a new proposed property tax is approved.

Our guests this week are reporters Michael Isaac Stein, Marta Jewson and Nicholas Chrastil and editor Charles Maldonado.
