Home

The past few weeks we have seen a lot of attention being paid to the word demolition. It has been almost 2 years since I returned home to New Orleans. My own house is still under repair but since we have a raised house our primary living spaces are upstairs. So our day to day remains much the same.

I started to document houses because I know the process of forgetting is so swift but can be so painful. There was a fierce fire during the flood and it destroyed nearly an entire square block near my home. Recreating that block in my own imagination is a part of my daily life.

“Alan”:http://thinknola.com/ sent me this “link”:http://www.levees.tv/home, in this video the film-maker recreates his HOME.

I was fortunate enough to be able to speak with Matt Faust who made this video. This house was also demolished without permission of the owners, Matt’s parents. There were many valuable items in the attic of the house, and they had no idea that it would be demolished.

In August we challenged the City government to include “due process”:http://www.dangerblond.org/blog/?p=825 in the process of identifying homes to be demolished. In spite of an agreement to a 4 day period in which relief would be granted a homeowner who had gone through the process; found himsel ,once again on the receiving end of an unrequested demolition permit. So we again find ourselves in “conflict”:http://nola.live.advance.net/news/t-p/neworleans/index.ssf?/base/news-8/11981330833090.xml&coll=1 with the City.

So we hope the City will abide by promises made in all cases.
