Thanks to everyone for their support and prayers over the last few days.
We have been successful in DELAYING the demolition of Cabrini Church,
temporarily…
We NEED EVERYONE’s help, in a very large way. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR
OFFERS, now I must say YES, PLEASE.
The update is that because neither Holy Cross nor the Archdiocese
presented the demo of the church in their request for FEMA support,
they are now faced with a Federal review to determine National
Landmark eligibility on our church. This process may take as much as 2
weeks, but could be much shorter, at which time demolition would begin
immediately.
SO, WE MUST ACT NOW! And we NEED YOU!
There are 2 areas involved in the review:
-the 1st involves architectural, engineering and design studies, as
well as awards received and any news stories, accolades etc.
This primary area will be coordinated by Professor Stephen Verderber,
from Tulane University School of Architecture, whom many of you met
Saturday, or perhaps at the HDLC.
Your help in this area would include media coverage, newspaper
articles, magazines, etc. or if you had access to any of Curtis and
Davis’ files or drawings, etc.
Please contact Stephen at, sverder@tulane.edu.
-the 2nd area of the study involves (things that ALL of us have)
COMMUNITY and SOCIAL importance of the Church, and any records
reflecting various activities, example, graduations, ring ceremonies,
The Church Jubilee, EVERYTHING that happened in the Church is
important..baptisms, weddings, funerals and any announcements, printed
materials, photographs, programs you may have kept as a keepsake.
These are needed badly to help tie in the HUMAN ELEMENT into the uses
of the Church over its’ history. Also, personal remembrances, both
specific and broadbased, whether hand written or by computer/typed…
Something that will be valued highly are the personalized memories
that we ALL have…..THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP, immediately!
(if you don’t want to turn over your graduation program or wedding
invitation, make a copy or scan it and email me, david@degashouse.com
(or Patricia, pmscpa@aol.com) with it ASAP.
After this battle is over, we would like to catalog/archive these
items for future use as we move forward as a parish/future use of the
church.
-Another action point I ‘m asking for is to forward ALL email
contacts…(your email addresses that apply to Cabrini) to Patricia or
me. If you forward to your family individual email addresses, or
friends, we would like to email them directly ourselves, in the
interest of building our membership ASAP. SOOOO, PLEASE think of old
classmates or CYO buddies you are in touch with, CALL THEM and BRIEF
them on what’s going on here and send us their email addresses.
DON’T WAIT, DO IT NOW!! ACTION POINTS REQUIRE ACTION NOW, PLEASE!
-The next action point, for those who can visit the Church, we want to
set up a shrine in front of the Church at the Paris Avenue doors,
(still untouched and really HIGH VISIBILITY).
The shrine may include flowers, notes, cards, memories, requests for
intercession—badly needed right now, etc.
After 9-11, Churches all over the world had shrines of flowers, etc.
Think how meaningful this can be and, after all, we are FIGHTING FOR
THE VERY LIFE OF OUR CHURCH!
Please be creative and tell everyone you know how badly this is needed.
REMEMBER, we are looking for as many names, phone numbers and email
addresses as possible.
The last thing I’m requesting from you, LETTERS TO THE EDITOR of the
Times Picayune. You have been wonderful with your emails and putting
your thoughts out there.
Now, its’ time you go public with your feelings, whether its’ the
unfair handling of the closing of the church or the
mis-characterization of the damages, or anything you think…we need to
set the record straight in the public eye and win over public
support…IMMMEDIATELY, PLEASE!!
Mother Cabrini helped us BIG TIME yesterday, and I THANK HER for
that….now it’s time once again to use the tools we have been given to
protect our Church!
THANK YOU ALL FOR BELEIVING, TOGETHER, WE CAN ACCOMPLISH OUR GOAL OF
SAVING ST. FRANCES CABRINI CHURCH!
GOD BLESS OUR EFFORTS and YOU!
