A positive audit of school finances was the main topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of ARISE Academy’s board of trustees, Nov. 16.

Don Wheat and William Kulick, accountants with the Carr, Riggs & Ingram firm, began the hour-long board meeting by reviewing Arise’s finances for the year year that ended June 30.

“This was one of the cleanest audits we have ever done, which is a testament to the folks that ran this school,” Wheat said in summary. “The school is in good financial shape for the rest of the year.”

The meeting began at 6:15 p.m. with seven board members present, including two new members: Katie Beck and Candice Frazier. Both were unanimously approved to join the board following their introduction at October’s board meeting.

Following the audit review, the board discussed ways to strengthen the school’s  image and deepen relations among teachers, parents and the community.

Board Secretary Gary Kreigh announced plans to hold an “introductory breakfast and ARISE Academy tour” on Jan. 20, a Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to  10:00 a.m.

Principal Andrew Shahan said he expects about 20 parents and community members to attend the event.

“We’re also working with out PIC (Parental Involvement Committee) to help out with our fall and spring fairs,” Shahan said. “We need to let people see the progress this school has made in recent years.”

The 2012 Spring Fair will be held either on April 12 or 19, both Thursdays.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m. The next board meeting is Dec. 21.
