Edward Hynes Charter School remains on schedule to move to its new campus the week of Dec. 19, the school’s principal said during October’s monthly board meeting.

In her report to the board at the Oct. 24 meeting, Principal Michelle Douglas said Hynes will adjust its academic calendar by canceling school on Friday and Monday, Dec 16. and Dec. 19. Classes will resume at the new campus on Monday, Jan. 9.

The meeting began at 5:08 p.m., with all board members present: Alvin Meister, Timothy Ryan, Elizabeth Sigler, Todd Schexnayder, April Bedford, Barbara Richard and Darlene Morgan. Six members of the public were also in attendance, including a reporter for The Lens.

Along with a progress report on the new building, Douglas highlighted Hynes’ 2011 school performance report. Hynes’ score was 117.2, surpassing its two-year growth target in one year. The new target for Hynes is 120.2.

Hynes has 70 slots open for Kindergarteners next year. Applications for new students for the 2012 – 2013 school year will be accepted through Jan. 13. An admissions lottery will be held in March.

The meeting ended with a financial report from John Gaudry. It showed Hynes to be in good shape for the rest of the year, even with expenses associated with the move. Gaudry said he would release a more detailed expense report once work on the new building is finished.

The next board meeting is on Dec. 5.
