Behind The Lens episode 172: Trigger bans

Reporters discuss the state of abortion in Louisiana following last week's Supreme Court ruling. And the Army Corps of Engineers is taking a close look at a proposed construction project in St. John.

On this week’s episode, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is joining other groups expressing concern about the construction of a proposed large-scale grain elevator close to historic sites in St. John the Baptist Parish.

A lawsuit filed on behalf of one of the state’s three abortion clinics allows them to continue to operate — in theory — despite a trigger law that went into effect immediately following the Supreme Court’s decision striking down Roe v Wade. However, Attorney General Jeff Landry claims providers operating while implementation of the law could face legal and professional consequences.

Our guests this week are Lens reporters Joshua Rosenberg, Marta Jewson, Nick Chrastil and editor Charles Maldonado.
