Education/General Assignment Reporter
The Lens, a nonprofit newsroom in New Orleans, is looking for an education reporter to cover all aspects of the NOLA Public Schools district, a unique, decentralized 80-school landscape that went through a major overhaul after Hurricane Katrina to become the nation’s only all-charter district. (Well, now we’ve added one direct-run school. But otherwise all charters.) Other job duties may include light work on Behind the Lens, a weekly podcast.
Education-reporting experience is a plus, but not required. We are looking for a skilled reporter who can dig deep into this topic in New Orleans, which we consider a real reporter’s city, given its depth of culture, politics, and history.
