Recovery School District Superintendent Patrick Dobard will be discussing New Orleans education issues as part of The Lens’ Breakfast with the Newsmakers series, which is open to the public on Thursday at 8 a.m. at Basin St. Station.
During the hourlong program, Lens education reporter Jessica Williams will talk one-on-one with Dobard for about 40 minutes on a variety of topics. Those will include the RSD’s decision to close the last of its traditional, non-charter schools, as well as student academic progress and the effort to create a unified OneApp student application for all city schools. Then we’ll throw the floor open for questions for 20 minutes.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m., and coffee and pastries are provided, courtesy of Basin St. Station.
The event is free to Lens members, with a suggested donation of $10 for non-members.
Come back here Thursday morning for a live stream video of the event, as well as a running written blog.
To get a taste of the event, watch our previous interviews with John Barry, who is leading the effort to sue oil and gas companies for wetlands damage, and Kristen Gisleson Palmer, the City Council District C representative who is stepping down in May.
