This week on Behind The Lens, Tulane University terminated an academic program manager this summer. After the syllabus she’d helped create for an infectious disease class was rejected by a newly hired instructor because it included an academic article about a polio outbreak in Gaza, she was also investigated by the university for comments that allegedly ran afoul of the university’s policy.

In many states, including Louisiana, most prisons are located in rural areas, far from the urban courts that sentence many state prisoners. The main lifelines between inmates and family are phone calls, but those calls can be prohibitively expensive, prompting new rules to slash rates. But the new FCC chairman abruptly announced that it would postpone those reforms until 2027.

The John F. Kennedy High School students who endured the 2019 graduation scandal can continue their class-action lawsuit against charter operator New Beginnings Schools Foundation, a state appellate court ruled last month.

Our guests this week are Lens reporters Delaney Nolan, Bernard Smith, and Marta Jewson.
