Behind the Lens episode 269: ‘They are not forgotten’

This week, two St. James Parish residents who recently wrote a piece for the Lens on their families’ deep roots in the region and how local histories like their own are threatened by the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Barbara Washington and Gail LeBoeuf are co-founders and co-directors of Inclusive Louisiana, a local organization dedicated to safeguarding the residents of St. James Parish and surrounding areas from the detrimental effects of industrial pollution, as industry moves to take over land that includes ancestral burial sites.

Our guests this week are environmental activists Barbara Washington and Gail LeBoeuf, and Lens environmental reporter Delaney Dryfoos.

Carolyne Heldman Rovira has been in media for 35 years, and is currently the podcast host and producer for Behind The Lens. Heldman served as executive director at Aspen Public Radio, an NPR affiliate, where she launched four weekly news, public affairs, and cultural affairs programs. She has been a guest lecturer at Tulane University, is a frequent guest and moderator for the Aspen Institute, Rocky Mountain Institute, and the American Enterprise Institute.
