This week on Behind The Lens, in a unanimous vote on a controversial issue, the New Orleans City Council’s Utilities Committee has allowed local energy company Entergy New Orleans to sell its natural gas distribution system to a new and untested entity, Delta States Utilities. They cite job creation among other things, but critics are concerned about rate increases and the new company’s reliance on fossil-fuels.

And in the wake of the passage of Act 246 in Louisiana, the nation’s strongest law blocking certain reproductive healthcare=, attorneys representing advocates for women’s rights have filed suit against the state, alleging the new law is unconstitutional. The city has also created a map for doctors and patients to track the medication’s availability throughout the city.

Our guests this week environmental reporter Delaney Dryfoos, reporter and photojournalist La’Shance Perry, and managing editor Katy Reckdahl.
