The board running the New Beginnings Charter School Network publicly interviewed two finalists Thursday for chief executive officer, one from Milwaukee with Louisiana experience, and the other with the Recovery School District. The CEO oversees four schools with a projected 2012-13 enrollment of more than 2,100 students and a combined budget of more than $17 million.

At its monthly meeting, July 31, the New Beginnings School Foundation introduced Helene Derbigny as interim chief executive officer and announced  formation of a committee to replace executives who have resigned. The board also announced plans to implement a new teacher training and evaluation system.

A “culture of fear” among fellow teachers was alleged by a member of the Pierre Capdau faculty at the May 29 board meeting of the charter management organization that runs Capdau and three other schools. “Have you noticed that there are no teachers at these meetings?” Iesha Pearce asked the Capital One-New Beginnings board during the meeting’s public comment period.

There was no public, let alone public comment, at a two-hour public budget hearing Thursday to let interested parties comment on the proposed annual budgets for the four schools in the Capital One-New Beginnings Charter School Network. Like virtually all public bodies, charter schools are required to hold such a hearing before approving their budgets.

The Capital One – New Beginnings Charter School Network is holding a public hearing on the budgets for its four schools Thursday at noon. A quick overview of the budgets can be seen below.

Directors of the Capital One-New Beginnings Charter School Network met with school staff and the Recovery School District March 27 without a quorum. Adam Hawf and Troave Profice from the RSD’s Office of School Performance met briefly with the board.  Hawf explained his office’s role and fielded questions.

Directors of the Capital One-New Beginnings Charter School Network discussed audit findings and mid-term testing results as they met Jan. 31 for the first time since October.
