Several more independent charter school leaders soon will find themselves facing a question that several others, including Sophie B. Wright Charter School’s principal, have been grappling with for more than a year: Should we move back under the wing of the Orleans Parish School Board?
The school remains on track to move to a temporary site for the 2013-2014 school year, the Sophie B. Wright Charter School board announced at its monthly meeting, Aug. 15.
Many of the students at Sophie B. Wright Charter School will have their first experience with Advanced Placement classes this fall as part of the school’s improved high school curriculum. Principal Sharon Latten Clark announced the addition of four AP courses including literature, music theory, U.S. history, and world history at the June 27 board meeting.

Wright Board announced an 8-percent increase for its 2012-2013 operating budget.Despite state open meetings laws, which require public bodies to give ten days’ notice before presenting a budget and which require public discussion before a budget can be passed, the board of Sophie B. Wright apparently hastily approved a budget in a special meeting convened in mid-April.
