The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education held its School Innovation and Turnaround Committee meeting Tuesday at 11 a.m. I live-blogged the meeting here. This committee hears issues related to the Recovery School District and charter schools.

Here is the agenda:

Report on Lycée Français: The Louisiana Department of Education provided a report on the French-speaking charter school Lycée Français. Lycée has appeared before the board to report on its spring 2012 second-grade enrollment and to discuss the expansion of its French foreign-language program.

Report on school performance scores for all Recovery School District schools and report on status of schools transferred to the RSD: These items were deferred until the November  meeting because the state scores and letter grades have not yet been released.

Update on the Recovery School District’s capital projects: RSD’s director of capital projects provided an update, as of August, on construction projects funded by federal recovery dollars. These projects include construction by the Orleans Parish School Board and the RSD.

Consideration of the Orleans Parish School Board’s resolution on the Master Plan Oversight Committee: At its Oct. 11 committee meeting, the parish school board approved a resolution to nominate new members to the oversight committee. The state board approved this resolution.

Revisions to charter school policy: The board approved changes to permit other state agencies, nonprofit corporations, and higher education institutions to authorize charter schools. This is one of the changes spurred by Act 2, one of the Legislature’s two bills that overhauled education.
