Sharing a quick summary, for those who don’t have time to look at every photo. About 25 of the above 113 photos (22%) are houses clearly falling apart due to structural damage, fire, neglect, poor repairs, storm damage, etc. Most of the others are nondescript, damaged houses. It seems like the efforts of Karen and Sarah resulted in a more sane list.

A fair number of the proposed demos have architectural salvage potential (doors, windows, Victorian brackets, etc.) The City is supposed to be arranging with non-profits to salvage, so hopefully that is progressing.

However, not all of the mistakes have been scrubbed from the list. At least 5-8 houses (4% or higher) appeared to be under repairs. Other vacant houses are clearly sturdy and saveable –they simply need to be gutted and secured. Doesn’t this cost less than demo? Since demo funds are limited, wouldn’t it be easier to take these questionables off the list and gut them? Then add to the list more of the truly unsaveable structures that neighbors are desperate to have torn down.

  • I wonder if Mercy will finally get the axe?

That agenda seems huge for New Years Eve…
